Buttercups!

It is so funny that something as in consequential as spring flowers should suddenly become so important to me Buttercups!!! Little yellow flowers spread through out the wild with abandon! AND I missed them!....
Once I lived in Seattle, I never saw a Glacier Lilly in the five years I lived there......I would find myself actively searching for them. I had Mom mail me some pussy willows because I missed them so very much. I never missed goat weed or cockle burrs...
Never mind that I lived in a "rain forest" area where Rhody's grew wild!. Black Cap berries grew with such abandon that people burned them out of their yards to get rid of them!
The children and I would make our annual pilgrimage to the skagit valley to see the fields and fields-- acres and acres of tulips and daffodils in bloom! I understand the tulip festival is nearly a thing of the past because few farmers are planting them any more!! The costs of fuel and fertilizer and the labor intensive crop has got them down! OH! What a shame! This was a beauty that could be seen in very few places! It enriched our lives in so many ways when the children were small and we could not afford to go many places to see such beauty!
I am a camera freak! I must own ten of them! We took Mom to see the Tulip Festival! It was her very first visit there..My daughter who was,"willful!" decided she was going to use my camera to take a picture of a lovely hot air balloon hanging over the fields of crimson tulips. I called to her, and called to her. She ignored me. She was going to take that picture! The balloonist hung the balloon up in the tree, To MY UTTER DELIGHT! I wanted that picture!. My daughter was snapping away at the blue sky the brightly colored balloon and the wonderful flowers. She had no idea about angle or looking to see what was in the foreground......which happened to be an old field worker urinating outside the outhouse in the field....That picture was not really marred....It is probably much more fun than the one I wanted to take...And I am NEVER going to let her live it down!

  1. Oh yes..I have a good memory of trips out to the woods, the buttercups , bluebells, trillium, Dutchman's breeches, black berries and raspberries......we don't see them very often in our area either. I miss those days as well!
